Although China is becoming one of the most popular destinations in the world for travellers who want to see exotic sights, enjoy unique culture, and get to know a foreign people, it has yet to develop the kind of tourist infrastructure that is needed to allow visitors to enjoy everything that they can at home.

At the present time, it is not possible for visitors to drive a car themselves if they visit China, so, in order to see the country at your own pace rather than as a part of a larger organised tour, it is necessary to hire a driver and car together and be driven around.

The only way that you can drive in china is to take the local driving test, which is rather expensive to do, and quite impractical to arrange unless you are in the country for more than 3 months - under which circumstances it may be a good idea.
