There are some important things to note about driving in Thailand, and certain requirements that you need to fulfil before you rent a car to explore this unique country. First off, you will need to ensure that you have a credit card to act as a deposit when you collect your car (no money is charged to the card, the details are stored in case of charges during your rental period).
You will need an international driving permit - IDP1949 before you drive your cheap car hire in Thailand, and this will need to be presented along with your regular UK driving license as prrof of identity when you collect your car.
In Thailand, you must drive on the left, which makes it easy to get used to, although the standard of driving - particularly on rural roads - can leave a little to be desired, and you will need to be fully aware of your surroundings when you drive.
If you plan on driving in Thailand, you should be aware fo the speed limit at all times, and keep to it. If you are stopped by police, they will usually charge you a fine on the spot and let you on your way. Regardless of whether you feel you have broken the law, it is unwise to argue with the local police in Thailand.
