One of the most popular fly drive itineraries in the whole of South East Asia is this remarkable drive through some of the most beautiful parts of Malaysia - the Cameron Highlands on a trip from Kuala Lumpur to the resort island of Penang. This 5 day drive allows you plenty of time to enjoy the sights and sounds of the jungle, take evening walks through tea plantations, as well as offering you the chance to escape from the heat of the coastal cities and plains for a few days.

On the first day, you will head north from Kuala Lumpur, and drive across country through some of the rolling countryside and farmland where the majority of the rice consumed is grown.

After a night in a hotel, day 2 sees you begin your ascent into the cooler air of the Cameron Highlands - the mountain range that acts as a spine for the Malaysian peninsula. You will see beautiful views and visit a couple of traditional villages before arriving at the hill station where you will spend the night.

On day three, you can spend the whole day exploring the tea plantations and forests that clad the mountain tops of this beautiful area, perhaps hiking through the scenery for a picnic, or seeing how tea is harvested.

Leave early on day 4 for the drive to Penang - the popular island resort with its perfect beaches and welcoming people. If you would preferr, you can book cheap car hire in Penang instead, and do this interesting tour in reverse.
