If you book car hire in Switzerland during the winter, you may find that the price that you originally paid to your travel agent does not include certain essentials that will come in really handy for you during your stay.

During the winter months, the mountain roads of Switzerland can be blocked with snow, and even in the valleys, you may find that roads are almost impassable. Aside from hiring a 4x4 to make getting around Switzerland easier, many of the local car hire offices will offer you the chance to rent some snow chains for your car.

These easily fitted devices will give you plenty of additional grip, and could save your life! They must be removed when snow is no longer a problem however.

Ski Racks are rarely included in the price of your car hire, and are pretty much essential if you are on a skiing holiday. If you book cheap car hire in Geneva or Zurich during the winter, and plan on skiing, a rack is necessary, as carrying skis in your car could damage the upholstery and result in some additional charges.
